Introduction

This troubleshooting section was created to archive problems I've personally encountered that weren't easily solved with a simple google search or MS Knowledgebase lookup. They're here in hopes to make someone elses life easier than when I first dealt with the issue.

My Scenario

I had a Windows 98 computer come that was running very slow. It was infested with spyware. After all the clean up, Internet Explorer would not launch. It would crash with an Invalid page fault. I tried reinstalling IE6 and that did not help. I also ran an IEFix tool I came across on the MVP site.

The Fix

The fix was ultimately found in an MS Knowledgebase article that I finaly found while searching through numerous threads on Google Groups.

Using regedit, go to the following key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main

Look for a key called:

Search Bar

It's probably blank. Delete key 'Search Bar'. Close regedit and launch Internet Explorer. Did it work? It did for me and I hope it does for you.
