Baptisms complete

Yesterday evening the girls went through the baptism process. It all went really smooth. The girls slept through most of the service. The only realy problem was that it was so very warm in the church, which made it very uncomfortable. I really thought churchs had problems with heat and would try to keep it as cool as possible.

High Tech Hotel Room

Following a link from Slashdot, I read PC Worlds review of a hotel room dubbed ‘The Hotel of the Future’.

Normally I wouldn’t pass on a story like this, but some of the quotes were pretty funny, like this one:

I walked to the bathroom, which was replete with a glassed-in shower offering five nozzles and computerized water-temperature control. While it sounded luxurious, it proved ultimately more annoying than enjoyable, with a few surprises.

First, guests need 20/20 vision to deal with the plethora of controls. I don’t usually wear my glasses into a shower. Since I couldn’t see what buttons I was pushing, the crotch-level nozzle blasting 102-degree water came as a shock–and my attempts to shut it off only caused other nozzles to splash me as if I were in a penitentiary riot.

On Nascar…

Pocono is this weekend. This is one of my favorite races. What a cool track, longest straightaway on the circuit. It’s awesome when they show the camera angle looking all the way done the stretch and all the cars start snaking trying to make moves.

With that said, hopefully I’ll be able to watch it as we have a family gathering going on Sunday.

Holding off on a new PDA

Earlier this week I decided it was time to consider getting a new PDA. My Jornada 568 just isnt cutting the mustard anymore. It’s heavy and nearly impossible see in any outdoor light.

It didn’t take long for me to focus on the Dell Axim, especially since they just lowered the prices. But a little further investigation led me to find out the Pocket PC 2003 is just a mere week and few days away from being released. Now this opened another can of worms.

Do I take advantage of lower prices right now, or see what some of the new offerings are going to be from the hardware manufacturers? I’ve read that one of the big improvements in PPC2003 is with it WiFi abilities, and that one use of a new PDA I plan to take full advantage of. I wish Dell would announce their new product based on PPC2003 so I could see if I should wait.

St Yucky

Have you heard the new Metallica song, St Anger, yet? I have a few times now, and I have to say I hate it more every time I hear it. I’ve been a Metallica fan for a long time now(I remember when Master of Puppets was their current album), and this song just doesn’t sound very Metallicay. I hope some of the other songs on the new album justify the purchase.

Waste high in VPN setups

Over the last couple of weeks we’ve been working with some high-end VPN equipment for a rollout for a client of ours. I’ve got one of the remote VPN appliances at home and am connected to the main one at our office. All in all it’s working pretty well, we’re just working out some of the bugs. The main feature needed was the ability to VPN tunnels alive even though all the remote sites are on dynamic IP internet connections.

Are initial setup wasn’t working very good, if the tunnel went down, it would never renegotiate without rebooting the remote appliance, which I’m sure the client would complain about if they had to reboot it multiple times a day.

With the help of tech support, we’ve created the tunnels using a different method, and all seems good for now, just seems a little slow.

Right now I’m working from home, and connected to the office which is pretty cool. Outlook/Exchange seems to run just fine, but one of our applications, Timeslips, takes over 4 minutes to load up over the VPN.

Since we need to roll this out later this week, we don’t have much time to work out the bugs, so my day should be fairly busy, again.

So far…

So far this has been an extremely unproductive weekend. The weather hasn’t been great; yesterday morning was extremely windy which caused us to loose power twice.

Today, Sunday, the weather is much better, although somewhat cool. I really need to get the lawn cut and stuff planted in the garden. Those will be projects for when my son goes down for a nap. After everyone is awake from naps, a walk will definitely be in order.

Now, just figure out what to make for lunch…
