Too bad real life is nothing like the blogshares world. When I started out with a measly $500, I thought for sure I loose it and have to quit playing, but it’s actually been quite the opposite.
As I type this I have a projected worth of over $130,000 and a total real worth of $111,000. Now it took awhile to get to the $50,000 mark, and that only happened because I got very lucky on some stock purchases.
But lately I’ve been putting all my virtual cash into the index funds and really raking in the dough. The obvious trick, buy low, sell high.
Well, it was a pretty exciting event(as usual), but I was really bummed by the big wreck at the very end of segment 2.
I was glad Dick Bergren confronted Ryan Newman with the facts, when Ryan was having his little hissey fit during the interview after he wrecked out. (I really don’t care for Ryan)
I’m now a Progressive Insurance customer. Now I just need to get quotes for homeowners insurance. Mine from State Farm is kind of expensive, but was needed to keep the multiline discount for the auto insurance end of it. That policy isn’t due until the end of June, so I got a little time to investigate and get quotes.
Inspired by Dennis’ quest for cheaper insurance, and since both my vehicle premiums are due this month, I decided to run through the Progressive quote system to see what they could do for me.
Needless to say, without skimping on any of the coverage levels, I will be able to save over $200 a year on both vehicles.
Good looking out Dennis!
We’ve stopped using Network Solutions for domain registrations a couple of years ago, but for some reason I still use their site whenever I want whois information on a domain. Well, I don’t know where they get their information, but the domain I was checking today actually gave me wrong data.
Here’s the story: A customer calls today and says their website has been unavailable since yesterday. I do the obvious legwork before I submit a ticket to VO. Everything looks fine, and it appears to be a DNS issue. I submit the helpdesk ticket and within a few minutes it’s been closed. The description is: The domain expired on May 10th 2003. I was pretty sure I checked that the domain has not expired, so I go back to the Network Solutions website and rerun the whois, and I was right, it shows that the domains expiration date is May 10th 2004. Just out of curiosity, I run the whois from other sites, including Tucows(where the domain is registered), and low and behold they ALL show the expiration date as being May 10th 2003.
Moral of the story: Never use Network Solutions for ANYTHING!!!!
I actually spent some time last night working on the phpMP code. I made some changes to the database, and let me say it’s a good thing I made a backup before I started, because I hosed all the timestamps of my entries table. After a quick restore, I was back in business(and a lot more careful).
The site is now displaying the entries over the last 10 days as opposed to only the last 10 entries. This is something I’ve wanted to do for a long time.
Also, I’m starting to get back into the swing of things for ZuWrite, development can be seen at the demo site.
Yup, it wasn’t the best weekend I’ve ever had. I learned something about my fridge this weekend. I won’t go into a ton of details, but if you turn the freezer control to off, you turn the whole thing off(even though both sides have their own controls).
There were a couple of positives though. Even with the 8 million mile per winds we had, my parents were still able to cook an outstanding meal on the grill. Good job dad! And some freinds we don’t see too often stopped by on Saturday evening.
GTA Vice City, it’s coming this Tuesday(5/14/2003) for the PC. This will be the first game I’ve boughten in a couple of years. Hopefully it will run good on my outdated P4.
The last couple of years I’ve been getting some patches of mushrooms in my backyard. This is really annoying, since I put so much effort in keeping my yard weed-free. Well, since the weather was pretty sucky this weekend, I decided to use the good ‘ol internet to do a little research on my mushroom problem.
Turns out there’s really no easy way to eliminate them(at least chemically). It turns out that they growing on some dead tree roots just below the surface. We had a couple of big trees cut down shortly after we moved in and these decaying roots along with the abundance of shade in this area provide the perfect mushroom growing environment. The only way to permanently get rid of the growth would be to dig up all the roots.
